Step 3: Find An Available Domain Name

Why do you need a "Domain name"? Because a Domain name is what people type into their web browser to find your website. A "Domain Name" is nothing more than a "website name". For example, google.com is the domain name for the company, Google, Inc. Our domain name is aimforgrowth.com, which happens to be our company name, so it worked out great for us!

All of our plans include a FREE Domain name. You don't have to worry about anything, we'll take care of it all for you. We do, however, need to know what domain name you would like to use for your website. In order to assist you better, we've made it easy for you to find out if the domain name you would like to use for your website is currently available or has already been taken.

We have built an application from our website that tells you whether or not a given domain name is available or has already been taken. You can click here to check it out, but before you do . . . let me give you some advise in finding a domain name.

Let me teach you some good practices that you would be wise to follow in coming up with your own website name.

  1. The domain name does not have to be your company name.
For example, just because your company may be called, "Docker & Docker Manufacturing Company", does not (and should not), mean that you choose dockeranddockermanufacturingcompany.com as your website name! Do you see why that would be a problem? It's way too long, not to mention it's not memorable, which brings me to my second point. The bookstore, "Barnes & Noble" secured their domain name by using barnesandnoble.com AND bn.com. That was smart.

  2. Ideally, you want a domain name that is memorable.
A site name that is short, starts with a consenant and ends with a consenant, (or has a consenant in the middle), is very good because tends to be more memorable. But that's not always possible, so do your best to keep it short. You may think that dockeranddockermanufacturingcompany.com is not too difficult to remember, but keep in mind, your visitors may not remember the entire name, or may mispell it.

  3. Never mispell a domain name on purpose.
For example, if you wanted the domain name, buy.com because you sell products on your site, it would not be a good idea to use the domain, bi.com or beye.com or by.com. If you wanted the domain, misspell.com, it would not be a good idea to use, mispel.com because your potential visitors would by default attempt to spell it correctly! The only exception to this rule is when you find a company, like, "ToyRus", that uses their company brand name as their website name. It is expected to spell it that way.

  4. Try not to use numbers in your domain name.
You don't want to confuse the potential visitor to your site. For example, our company name is "Aim For Growth", and we secured the domain name, aimforgrowth.com, NOT aim4growth.com. It's just a good practice. That way, you don't have to explain the spelling of your domain name every time you tell somone the name of your site.

Once you find the domain name that you like, contact us right away so that we can secure that domain name for you before somebody else takes it.
